Today I read an
article on StarTribune.com about an 11-year-old boy that is fighting Burnsville's city council to let him keep his pet chickens in his backyard. This article was written by Joy Powell. This all started when a city official told the family that the chickens had to go. The boy was saddened by this because the family had raised the chickens since they were chicks. The City Council has made up their mind that the birds do have to be taken off the property because they are worried that other people will want birds and they don't want that issue to arise. I feel very sorry for the boy and the family because the chickens are the family pets. Its just like someone coming in and taking away your dog or your cat and telling you that they are taking them away because they don't ant other people to get dogs and cats. Its just a more extreme case that deals with chickens but its the same principle. In the end I believe its the right thing to do and the family should look into other types of pets that are legal in their area.
