Today I read an
article about Cuba and how Fidel Castro stepped down as president of Cuba. This is a huge change because Castro was a poor president and his brother will take over as new president. The article said that a new 31 member Council of State will be chosen and Cuba says that this process will be democratic. When this article was written, President Bush was still President. Bush told Cuba that he will help them become a democratic country. People in Cuba are happy for the change because Fidel's brother in more lenient and will allow people to do more things like go on the internet, turn the country in a democracy so the people can have say, and he is considering letting them travel outside of Cuba. Raul Castro will release political prisoners and begin building institutions necessary for a healthy democracy. Doing this will lead to free and fair elections in the future. People are glad for this change and everyone cannot wait to see what kind of change Raul can bring to Cuba.
